José Méndez - Class of 2006
Pitcher José Méndez was likely the first internationally known Cuban baseball star. Nicknamed Black Diamond, he was noted for his blazing fastball and sharp curve. Méndez led the Kansas City Monarchs to three consecutive Negro National League pennants (1923-25).
